Crich Monument Race 2020 - postponed

by Andrew Auld

Crich Monument Race - runners at the start line

Dear fellow Runners.

What challenging times we have upon us, and although I’m sure this won’t come as a surprise - I wanted to update you on the plans for this years Crich Monument Race.

We have been advised by UK Athletics and the Trail Running Association, that all race licences will be suspended until June - so along with the current advice from the Government and Public Health England we have taken the decision to postpone our event.

I’m sure that you will all have a lot more on your minds than this at present, but rest assured we will be back and we will once again be able to enjoy our fabulous course and event.

In the meantime - please do continue to enjoy your running - solo - and keeping a safe distance from others out and about, and we will update you once we have a firm date for the race.

If you would prefer not to wait, and would like to cancel your place, we would fully understand - please contact us directly.

Yours in Running

The Crich Monument Race Team

Cancellation of local events

by Andrew Auld

It is with regret, that the Crich Area Dementia Friends and the 1st Matlock (Scouts) Group have decided to postpone the re-showing of the film “Stories, Yet Untold” which was scheduled to be shown at the Glebe Field Centre on Saturday 21st March at 14.00 and 15.30. We will publish the new date once there are no further concerns about public health.

In addition, Crich Area Dementia Friends have decided to cancel two sessions of “Strictly Come Moving” which were due to be held on Friday March 27th and Friday 24th April at 14.00 at the Wesleyan Chapel, Chapel Lane. We will consider whether future sessions will go ahead, at a later date, in the light of the current public health advice.

It is an indication of how quickly things are changing because within 24 hours of saying that the Gentle Yoga sessions, run at the Glebe Field Centre every Tuesday morning, were continuing, we have had to take the difficult decision to suspend them until further notice.

We are aware how much everyone enjoys them but the health of the participants is of paramount importance. The sessions are, therefore, cancelled until further notice.

The PLACE Project update

New shelter on the recreation ground

by Paul Yorke

We are pleased that the new swing and shelter have been installed on the Crich recreation ground and hope to have had the new 12 seat curved bench installed before you read this! We thank Awards for All for funding the swing and shelter and Peveril Homes for funding the curved bench.

You may have also noticed three additional benches and we thank Keith Fearn, Maureen Ashton and Laura Taylor for their kindness and for creating a place for themselves and others to sit and remember. Our thanks also go to Esme and the patrons of the Kings Arms for a recent donation from their quiz night.

New swing in the Crich Recreation Ground

We know the play and gym equipment are being well used and also that some just enjoy the chance to exercise around the path. Many people recognise what a great place the ‘rec’ is and The PLACE Project committee is grateful to all who have contributed including: the Parish Council, Veolia, Awards for All, Peveril Homes, Harron Homes, Wheeldon Homes, the Cliff Inn, customers of the Post Office, The Loaf, Nisa, Kate Smith and many other individuals.

Finally, we make an important appeal to all dog owners: can you please pick up your dog’s waste and use the bins provided. There are a number of associated health risks with dog waste and young children using the rec are therefore put in real danger! PLEASE, PLEASE ACT RESPONSIBLY so that everyone can enjoy using this valuable community space.

Amber Valley Arts and Culture Survey

by Andrew Auld

Dancer from pluspng.com

The University of Derby is conducting this survey as part of a bid for Arts Council England funding focused on the Amber Valley.

If successful, this funding aims to bring arts and cultural activity to the local communities of Amber Valley. To make sure that this arts and cultural activity is shaped by communities, we would like to find out about the arts activities and events that you take part in, and to find out your opinion about where you live.

The survey is anonymous and you cannot be identified from your responses.

Please take part by click this link, it will only take you five minutes to complete. The closing date is 16 March.
