Crich Area Covid-19 Mutual Aid

Crich Mutual Aid logo

This community network - Crich Area Covid-19 Mutual Aid - has come together to provide a coordinated response in Crich and South Wingfield Parishes to the measures being recommended by Government.

There are over 100 volunteers in the network ready to help the residents of Crich Parish and South Wingfield Parish. Things have been progressing at a rate of knots behind the scenes and we have already been helping residents that have been in touch through us directly.

Call the network helpline on:

01773 447533

Get help with shopping, meals, prescriptions, petcare, phone contact, post or just for a friendly chat.

The prescription delivery service will be stopping on Friday 10 July 2020.

Here's a summary of what is happening:

  • Leaflet - we have now got a leaflet, kindly printed by Roy Nadin Print for free, which informs residents about the helpline and the services they can access. The leaflet will be being delivered to all residents of Crich Parish and South Wingfield parish by the Crich Standard distribution volunteers and others over the weekend. See the link below to download a printable pdf of the leaflet to give to your neighbours.
  • Helpline - the helpline number is 01773 447533 and is now ready to take calls from residents. We have a group of helpline volunteers who are going to take the calls and pass the requests for help out to you - the volunteers. If we find we need more helpline volunteers, we will get in touch. The helpline is being managed by Claire Teeling and Steve Wood
  • Shopping/post - Phil Dolby of Crich Postoffice is going to look after the shopping/post volunteers. He has put together an information pack with guidance on the dos and don'ts of shopping for residents, the cash handling and the record keeping etc. He will be getting in touch with those who have volunteered to shop and passing that information out to you. Shopping volunteers will then start to hear from the Helpline volunteers as they get requests in for shopping.
  • Phone contact - the helpline will provide a point of contact for residents who want to call up for a chat. However, if the residents want more regular contact, the helpline will pass those requests over to Crich Careline to schedule and manage outbound calls to those residents. A group of our volunteers are also happy to volunteer for Careline, either temporarily or on a more long term basis and Andy Harding of Careline is busy getting them up and running with that service.
  • Prescription delivery - this is quite a complex area and there are some necessary restrictions around the handling of, in particular, controlled drugs. Frances James is working with the Crich Medical Practice and Lloyds Pharmacy to put together a process for a very small group of volunteers to get involved with helping the existing prescription delivery service which is overwhelmed. Helpline call requests for prescription delivery are being passed to Frances James' group to handle.
  • Lloyds Pharmacy opening hours: Monday to Friday: open 8.45 am to 6.00 pm; Saturday open 9.00 am to 1.00 pm. Please note that prescription preparation takes 4-5 working days for regular prescription medication so order well in advance of running low.
  • Meals provision - there are a number of organisations and businesses that have come forward to offer meal delivery services. Cathy Bowness is working with them to put together a list of what is being offered by whom and we will be posting that information online on crichstandard.org as well as the various facebook pages. The helpline volunteers will provide residents with this information when they get calls.
  • Communication - Linda Philo and Andrew Auld have been putting as much relevant information as possible up on the Crich Standard website and Facebook page as well as Spotted: Crich, Fritchley, South Wingfield and Whatstandwell on Facebook. They will continue to use these methods for getting the word out as well as through the Post Office, Community groups, businesses and the Medical Practice.

There is also a lot of work going on behind the scenes on making sure we have safeguarding and data security processes and measures in place. The network aims to help people who are anxious, potentially isolated and in some cases vulnerable. We have been taking very seriously the need to put in place a safe, reliable and trustworthy voluntary network.

Thank you very much to the volunteers - we know there is a lot of work going on between neighbours, families and friends too. We are strong communities and we will all be there for each other through this crisis.

If you have any questions about any of this, please email covid19@crichstandard.org.
