Join in with the Christmas Story as it unfolds in windows around Crich from 15 December to 29 December.

There will be stopping places around Crich telling the Christmas Story, culminating at St Mary’s for the Nativity scene. Each stopping place will be linked with a Christmas carol. 

Guide books can be picked up from the telephone kiosk in the market place and at the end of the journey, craft bags can be collected from St Mary’s Church porch between 10.30 am and 6.00 pm.

CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS: HOLIDAY ACTIVITIES FOR CHILDREN IN THE CRICH AREA

We are delighted to say that we have organised more activities for children aged 5 to 13 during theupcoming Christmas Holidays.

We have received funding from Derbyshire County Council through the Department for Education’s, Holiday, Activity and Food (HAF) Fund. This means that children who receive pupil premium do not have to pay for any of the activities or for the food. 

Holiday Clubs

Three days of Holiday Clubs will be run by Premier Education at South Wingfield Primary School on Tuesday 4th, Wednesday 5th and Thursday 6th January 2022 from 9.30 am to 3.30 pm for £5 per child per day.

Premier Education have been running Clubs for us for over a year now. We have had some brilliant feedback from the children who have attended the Clubs. The children do a range of things at the Clubs. These include art and craft, acting, general games, some sport and lots of outdoor fun.

Any child from, aged 5 to 12 years old, can attend. Lunch and snacks are provided.

We are organising a minibus which will pick up children from different places in the area – Fritchley Primary School, Crich Carr School, Lea Primary, Crich Market Square and Wessington - to take them to the Clubs. The minibus will do the return journey to the same places in the afternoon. There are 15 places on the bus, so please book a place early.

Adventure Day at Lea Green

We are delighted that we have been able to book another Adventure Day at Lea Green Outdoor Activities Centre. This will be on Friday 7th January 2022 from 9.30 am to 3.30 pm. This is for children aged 6 to 13 years old for £10 per child.

As with the Holiday Clubs, the Adventure Day will be free for pupils who receive pupil premium, as will lunch and snacks during the day. We will also be running a minibus to pick up and drop off children from the same places as for the Holiday Clubs.

To book a place for your child or children please ring or email the staff at the Glebe Centre in Crich, who are managing the bookings. When you send in your email please include the following information:

• The name(s) of the child(ren)
• Their dates of birth
• The school they attend
• Whether the child is entitled to pupil premium

• Any other issues that the staff at Lea Green need to be aware of

Crich Patients’ Participation Group and Glebe Field Centre

There are only two days to go until Crich Christmas Fair! The wine is ready to mull and the decorations are up! And if you've been wondering how you could have a 'greener' Christmas this year, we can help!

If you are local you could walk to the fair. Just follow the arrows from the Market Place to The Glebe Centre. No carbon emissions there!

Then, all of the stalls are being run by local Derbyshire businesses. We have cakes from Belper, bath bombs from Riddings, pottery from Fritchley, cider from Ashover, home made mince pies from The Glebe ....the list goes on. The furthest business away is Crafty You Crafty Me, based in Hilton. So there won't be many carbon miles involved in getting the exhibitors to the fair.

And finally, all of the stallholders make their own, unique gifts and don't wrap them in a load of plastic packagaing. We even have Belper toy library selling second hand good as new toys. So, remember to bring your own bags to put those presents in when you buy them!

There is just one snag though - Father Christmas will be putting in an appearance and opening the fair. I wonder how many sleigh miles he will have to do?!

Amber Valley Borough Council, who have been responsible for the maintenance of the ‘closed churchyard’ since the early 90s, have promised that the whole churchyard will be cut within the next few weeks. A churchyard is termed ‘closed’ because there is no more space for burials available. Burials now take place in the adjacent burial ground, below the churchyard. Crich Parish council are responsible for the maintenance of the burial ground.

St Mary’s PCC are excited to be in the planning stages of a sustainable maintenance plan, which will be carried out in cooperation with AVBC. The PCC hope the new plan for this special place can encourage biodiversity and the enjoyment and safety of all churchyard users.

We would love to know the views of those in our community who visit the churchyard and would like to invite you to come and talk to us during the afternoon session of the work day between 2-4pm.

The work party day – open to all comers with their garden tools – will be held on the morning of Satuday 30 October from 9.00 am and an afternoon session from 2.00 pm.  As it is Half Term on that day, children (supervised by their adults) are very welcome to join in!

The weekend of 16th & 17th October sees the welcome return of the Autumn Community Art Sharing presented by Art Share Crich at The Glebe Field Centre.

Alongside this there will be for the second year running an Exhibition and Art sale by artists in the ArtStand collective.

The two groups were so pleased with the success of their joint event last October,  that they have decided to do it all over  again  this year but this time even bigger!

Art Share Crich will be sharing artwork from local schools, art and craft groups and members of the community along with work that was created by people who attended the Get Creative and Have Fun workshops held at The Crich Tramway Village this summer and were inspired by the beauty and character of Cliff Quarry. Prizes will also be awarded by international wildlife photographer Andy Parkinson, and artists Irene Brierton and Denise Cliffen, to the artworks which best capture the essence of The Cliff Quarry.

The event will celebrate everyday creativity of the people who live and work in the Crich Area and aims to inspire more people to take up arts and crafts as a way of improving their wellbeing, especially in relation to recovery from the pandemic.

Clare  Limb, who is part of Art Share Crich, took part in one of the summer workshops ran by artist Denise Cliffen. Clare found it to be an uplifting experience ‘the beauty of the quarry and the Stand on top of the cliff really awakened my creativity and  improved my general sense of happiness’

During the event there will be live music by local writer, poet and musician Martyn Offord, who will be sharing his songwriting art with attendees throughout the weekend.

The ArtStand exhibition and Art Sale will include work by locally based  artists there will be a chance to  purchase art by the artists as well.
