Cats In Need is a Fritchley based charity dedicated to the care of found, abandoned, sick and feral cats in our local area. Established in 2001 the charity is managed by a committee of cat lovers dedicated to cats who strive to care for and re-home cats that come into our care.

This Registered Charity (No.1064684) raises funds through coffee mornings and sales that are usually held in the Baptist Chapel Schoolroom at Crich Market Place. Our members are also to be seen at local events raising funds selling jewellery, books, cards, bric-a-brac etc. Our fund raising efforts have been a huge success and with the help of local benefactors, we have recently constructed a new and fully equipped, bespoke cat pen, which is used to provide temporary accommodation for cats and kittens in our care.

We take the utmost care when re-homing cats and ensure new owners are suitably equipped to welcome and provide continued care for the new addition to their family. Prior to re-homing, a local vet examines all cats, and only when they have a clean ‘bill of health’, are they handed over to their new owners.

Pollyanna Pickering - our Patron until her untimely death in 2018 - gained international acclaim as a wildlife artist, and supporter of animal welfare worldwide. She was famous for her encounters with big cats, and established The Pollyanna Pickering Foundation in 2001. Her daughter, Anna-Louise, will be carrying on the work of the Federation to prevent the exploitation of wildlife, and carrying on her mother’s role as Patron of Cats In Need. We welcome Anna-Louise Pickering.

Cats In Need welcome all interest in our work from those who share our love of cats. We are looking for new committee members to assist with the continued efforts of the charity. Facebook users can visit our page facebook.com/catsinneedderby and keep up to date with events and details and pictures of cats in our care.

If you feel that you are able to help us in any way - including fostering a cat into your home - please contact Celia Peat (Secretary) on 01773 853428.

An Individual Membership of the Charity is £8 and a Family Membership £12 annually.
